Producing batteries inevitably results in byproducts. Some people call it waste – but it’s not at all. We recycle production materials, defect cells, non-conformity modules or packs and just about everything in between.
A complete recycling solution, from pick-up of materials at your site to delivery of high-purity recycled metals.
We recover almost all nickel, manganese, and cobalt found in old batteries to battery-grade levels of purity.
125kton recycling capacity being built.
Reduced CO2 footprint in Northvolt recycled cathode active material vs. virgin
What types of batteries can you recycle?
We focus on large batteries from electric vehicles, industrial applications, energy storage systems and electric bus and truck. Our preference is for batteries featuring NMC chemistry, but we are happy to discuss options for the recycling of other kinds of battery.
Can Revolt accept all types of battery classifications – i.e. green, yellow and red to Revolt for recycling?
Yes, Revolt accepts all battery classifications: green batteries, meaning end-of-life lithium-ion batteries that are not defective or damaged and are to be recycled or disposed; yellow batteries, meaning lithium-ion batteries that are not severely damaged but have some form of visible defect (such as casing deformations or visible corrosion) and are to be recycled or disposed; and red batteries meaning damaged lithium-ion batteries.
Are your recycling facilities in operation today?
Yes. Our pilot plant in Västerås has been in operation since 2020 and continues to support both our R&D, and test recycling of customer samples should it be required. At Revolt Hamburg we have been discharging and dismantling batteries since August 2023. And most recently, Revolt Ett has been brought online in Skellefteå, northern Sweden.
Is Revolt able to collect and transport batteries from my location(s)?
Yes, Revolt can assist your organization to ensure that regulatory compliance is met, including compliance to national waste systems as well as international cross-border shipments.
Can Revolt provide ADR approved packaging for battery waste?
Yes, we offer ADR- and UN-certified packaging for all classifications of battery waste.
Can you provide all documents to prove the recycling of my batteries?
Yes, we create a proof of recycling at our sites and provide this to customers.
Why do you claim that the Revolt recycling process is more sustainable than others?
We designed our recycling process to recover valuable materials whilst minimizing environmental impacts to the greatest extent possible. Life-cycle assessment confirms that undertaken at Revolt Ett recycling plant in northern Sweden, the process carries a significantly lower carbon footprint per kilogram of materials recovered than other mainstream industrial battery recycling processes, including pyro-hydromet and thermomechanical hydromet (featuring pyrolysis). Key factors contributing to this include the use of 100% fossil-free energy to power the process, the optimization of the process to use as few chemicals as possible, enabled by smart circulation of chemical substances, and avoidance of process high temperatures.
What do you do with the materials recovered through recycling?
We recover various materials from batteries, all of which is handled in different ways. For copper, aluminum and plastics, these materials are isolated and sent to our partners for further recycling or upcycling. Battery-grade metals recovered through hydromet, such as nickel, cobalt and lithium, are highly valuable as input materials for fresh battery production
